Short introduction

Salman Salek

A proficient music player, Tar and Setar educator, researcher at discography and theoretical foundations of Persian classical music as well, MA graduated in music at Tehran Art University, who was born in 1980 in Iran.

He had been studying ethnomusicology in France for two years (2008-2009) and, moreover, occupied at Paris 8 University under the supervision of Ms. Sandrin Lonc.

He was tutored playing Tombak by Mr. Gholamreza Mashayekhi during his childhood afterwards he commenced learning Tar with Messrs. Keyvan Saket, Arshad Tahmasbi, Daryoush Talayi in sequence. He entered the university in 1998. In the meantime, Mr. Salman Salek began a complementary course of Radif in Iranian music by professor Majid Kiyani. Thereafter, he enjoyed professor Mohammad Reza Lotfi’s company within five years (2006-2011). Mr. Salek had been a member of Iranian Music Group under Mr. Pejman Taheri’s leadership which results in 3 works of art for professor Mohammad Reza Shajarian, which have never been published. We could also name his other activities such as performing in Fajr Festivals Concerts, membership in Mehrabani Group, and several various performances in Tehran, some other provinces, and abroad as well. Furthermore, he is one of the best professors at Shiraz University and also University of Applied Science and Technology in the fields of Theoretical Foundations of Persian Classical Music, Radif Tar and Setar. Moreover, he plays an active and determined role in research activities like holding monthly specific meetings and producing research albums of Avaye Mehrabani Institute. He is also the management board member of this institute.

He has been educated by Messrs. Alireza Mashayekhi, Khosro Molana, Sasan Fatemi, Ali Bayani, Nasrollah Naseh Pour, Sharif Lotfi, And Ms. Azin Movahed university professors.
